Glucobay is utilized to manage blood sugar levels in individuals diagnosed with non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2 diabetes). It functions by inhibiting the activity of specific enzymes in the intestine (such as sucrose) that are responsible for digesting food and releasing sugars into the bloodstream. By decelerating the digestive process, Glucobay aids in preventing spikes in blood sugar levels after meals.

Always adhere to your doctor's guidance when using Glucobay. It is typically taken with the first bite of each main meal. Your physician may prescribe a dosage of 25 mg, three times daily. However, this dosage could be adjusted, and a maintenance dosage of 50 mg to 100 mg (to be taken three times a day) may be recommended.

Potential side effects include nausea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain, and digestive issues.

If you currently have or have a history of cirrhosis, ketoacidosis, or any intestinal disorders, it is essential to inform your doctor before starting Glucobay.

While Glucobay itself does not induce hypoglycemia, there is a chance this might happen if you are instructed to use it alongside other diabetes medications.

In case of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical help immediately. Be aware of symptoms that may indicate a reaction, such as skin rashes, hives, facial or limb swelling, difficulty breathing, and challenges with swallowing.
